An Evaluation of Kaduna State House of Assembly Oversight Function: A Study of Education, Work and Health Committees 2015-2023

The Kaduna State House of Assembly have power to make laws for the peace, order and good government of the state or any part thereof with respect to oversight function on the executive arm of government of the state. This will enable the public officers in the state to work for the benefit of all. The House committee members are to perform this oversight function with the intent of exposing any act of corrupt practices or wasteful of public resources in the ministries, departments and agencies of the state. This study examined the legislative oversight role of Kaduna State House of Assembly committees on health, education and work by exposing inefficiency and corrupt practices in government operations. For the purpose of this work relevant data were collected using primary and secondary data. For the interview, questions was administered to the members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly particularly the house committees members on education, works and health. The study employed the theory of separation of powers as its theoretical underpinning to help explain the variables that they study examined. The study revealed that legislative oversight function of Kaduna State House of Assembly is very effective in monitoring the activities of the of the ministry officials at the headquarters. It is recommended that the members Kaduna State House of Assembly should always endeavor to visit ministries departments and parastatals in order to ensure all the government policies and laws were well executed without hitches and within the limit of law.
