Author Guidelines

Scope of the Journal

The Academy Journal of Multidisciplinary Doctoral Research (AJMDR) publishes articles on well researched theoretical, experimental and analytical papers in all areas of Multidisciplinary Doctoral Research. The Journal is committed to the promotion of scholarship and dissemination of knowledge. Therefore, every paper intended for publication in the Journal must show evidence of scholarship and make some definite contribution to knowledge in Multidisciplinary Doctoral Research. Short communications, technical or design notes and book reviews are also acceptable for publication.

Publication Schedule

The Academy Journal of Multidisciplinary Doctoral Research is to be published quarterly.

Submission of Manuscript

Manuscripts should be submitted using the submission system. The submission of a manuscript will be taken to imply that the contents are original and that the paper has not been submitted elsewhere for publication. An acknowledgement will be sent to the author(s) upon receipt of the manuscript(s).

Language

All papers should be written in English, and spelling should generally follow the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Current English.

Preparation of the Manuscript

Manuscripts including references, appendices, tables, diagrams and graphs should be on A4 size with double line spacing and consecutively numbered pages with 32mm (1.24”) margins on all sides and between 3000 and 5000 words (10-15pages). The paper should be prepared using the format outlined below:

Page 1: Title Page

This should contain:

  1. The full title, preferably of less than 20 words which should contain the geographical location of the study;
  2. A title of not more than 48 letters and spaces;
  3. A list of up to 5 key words in alphabetical order suitable for international retrieval systems
  4. The full name of the author(s);
  5. The name of the institution(s) where the work was carried out;
  6. The present postal address(es) and or email(s) of the author(s) to whom proofs should be sent.

 Page 2: Abstract:

This should be a paragraph of not more than 200 words, a concise summary of the paper and should be intelligible on its own and in conjunction with the title. It should not contain abbreviations or references.

Page 3: The main body of the text may contain the following sections in the sequence indicated below:

  1. Introduction
  2. Method
  3. Results
  4. Discussion
  5. Summary or Conclusion
  6. Acknowledgement
  7. References
  8. Appendices
  9. Tables, Diagrams and Graphs
  10. Legends to figures (diagrams and graphs)

A summary should be included for lengthy reviewed papers only. This should state clearly and briefly in simple factual numbered statements, the objective of the study, the methods used, the results obtained and conclusion. Acknowledgment should be brief. Appendices and Notes should be avoided. If at all necessary any appendix or note will be printed at the end of the paper. Footnotes should be avoided completely.

Scientific Names

Complete Latin names (genus, species and authority) must be written in full for every organism mentioned in the text unless a standard reference is available which can be cited.

Units of Measurement

Measurements must be in SI unit. The minus index (m-1 m-3) should be used except where the unit is an object (e.g. “per/tree” not tree-1).

Abbreviations

In general, abbreviations should be avoided. Numbers should be given in figures. Dates should follow the following sequence: day-month-year (e.g. 1 January 1999). The 24-hour clock should be used e.g. 13:15hr.

Mathematics

All mathematical equations should be carefully written and presented in equation editors and checked so that a compositor can follow the copy easily. Greek letters, upper and lower-case letters, superscripts, subscripts and vectors should be identified appropriately. Equation numbers should be Arabic numerals enclosed in parentheses on the right-hand margin.

 Literature Cited

Number or Harvard systems of referencing in the text should be used. Irrespective of which of the two conventional methods of referencing adopted, all references cited in the text should be appropriately listed at the end of the article with the surname of author (s), year (date), title of article, name of journal volume and first and last pages of the article referenced e.g. Maron, P (1969). Stratigraphical aspects of the Niger Delta: Nigerian Journal of Mining and Geology.  Vol 4. pp 1-2. For references to a book, the publishers, the town of publication, and edition (if any) should be supplied. Names of Journals and volumes should be italicize or underlined.

Tables, Figures, Graphs and Diagrams

Tables should be typed together with their titles, on separate sheets. Column headings should be brief, with units of measurement in parentheses. Vertical lines should not be used to separate columns. Author(s) should avoid presenting tables that are too large to print across the page. Table width must not exceed 80 characters, including spaces between words, figures and columns. Each table should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. The Author(s) should mark in the margin of the text where tables, figures, graphs and diagrams are to be inserted. All tables, figures, graphs and diagrams must be mentioned in the text.

Author(s) should ensure that all figures, tables, graphs etc, whether line drawings or photographs, clarify or reduce the length of the text. All diagrams and lettering should be in black (Indian) ink on white drawing paper or tracing paper. Photographs should be provided on glossy black and white prints. If lettering is to be inserted on a printing, this should be shown on an extra copy or an over lay, and an unmarked print should be provided for marking by the printer. Figures should not be more than 50% larger than the final printed size (which is more than 13 x 12 cm). Great care should be taken to ensure that all parts (e.g. Lettering, scales, shading will reduce satisfactorily). Small illustrations should be grouped to occupy the least space consistent with good appearance. All necessary parts should be trimmed (e.g. borders of photographs) allowing at least 3 cm margin on all sides. Graphs should be mounted on stout white paper, using rubber cement or cow gun. On the back of each figure, the name of the author(s) and the figure number should appear. Figures should be sent flat: do not fold or roll. All figures should be numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals, using lower case for their subdivision.  Legends should be typed on a separate sheet.
